The latest we need names down for this event to confirm our crew(s) is Thurs 24th March. Then I will pass over our crew list to the rowing club and have a definite decision on which category(s) we will enter.
In contact with one of the newest clubs on the Gig Scene (Burnham on Sea in Somerset) and they have confirmed they are going to attend this race.
Some dates for the diary: See our freshly updated Events page on the website, which Max has spent the afternoon populating with the Regatta’s and events we plan to attend this season (thank-you Max). This should give you all a flavour for the events calendar as it currently stands.
Closer to each event, we will add individual message board threads for each one so that people can put their names down. Attendance at each even subject to rower availability and weather as always.
Ben
Ben would like to attend and row or cox.
******Please use the March Extra Sessions Thread for Helford event on 19th & all ‘March Extra Rows’**** Apologies for the error in my earlier email
Hi folks: Please indicate on here if you would like to attend the Helford Mini Scilly event on Saturday 19th March in Cornwall.
*****You will have noticed my error writing ‘February’ extra sessions. Please use this thread for Helford racing on 19th March and all other March Extra sessions, indicating which session you are putting your name down for********
Hi folks, Saturday 2nd April is the alternative date now for Exe Raid race.
As before, please put your name down if you would like to take part in this event, indicating which race you would prefer to take part in. (4km mixed crew, or 8km Mens/8km ladies).
£6 per rower to be paid by each rower on the day (charity fundraiser event).
Cheers
Postponed again.
Hi Rowers for Exe Raid,
Unfortunately this has been postponed again due to force 4-5 Northerly wind forecast and stronger gusts for tomorrow. Les didn’t take the decision lightly and mostly for the safety of the smaller boats with lower gunwalles.
Normal rowing session at 9am will be going ahead as planned still, as we can probably tuck out of the wind against the beach front.
Hi all, early indications and e-mail from Les at Exe Rowing Club suggest it will be a strengthening Northerly wind blowing down the Estuary, which may hamper efforts to run this event. He will send out a decision tomorrow which I will post on here. If it does go ahead, we would Likely be racing approx 13.00 but again will confirm when Les gives the final nod.
Ben
Unfortunately the Helford Race is cancelled tomorrow (Saturday 27th Feb) due to a strong North Easterly wind being forecast tomorrow. No word yet about whether it will be re-scheduled.
There is a possibility of a session tomorrow depending on a couple of factors:
Please put your name down if you would like to row tomorrow morning, then if we have enough there may be a session going ahead
Hi all,
OK so far we have the following:
Carrie to Cox
Bob
Shirley
Ben
Greg
Nic
Matt
Les at the Rowing club has confirmed we are allowed to enter a crew of 4 men and 2 ladies in the mixed 4km event. It is simplest and fairest if we run with the crew listed here, as I can then give the crew names to Les at the rowing club by Saturday as requested. Greg and Nic, we will run with this crew if you are able to get child care for an hour on that day. Could you confirm if that’s possible?
Ben
Hi rowers,
Could anyone who is travelling down to Cornwall for the Helford race this weekend give George Ford from Exeter a lift? If you can, post a response on here. I will also email out to all the attendees of this event. Myself and Carrie are travelling down on Friday evening now with the Gig, so we can no longer offer him a lift.
Hi Greg, just to clarify, the 4k event is the mixed one. The 8k events are separate 8k mens and separate 8k ladies races. We would consider entering the longer races (if we get enough interest from our members on here), but will likely end up doing the 4km race given the number so far coming forward. Cheers
Ben is keen to take part in this race. Another Gig from a new club in Burnham on Sea is coming down, possibly also one from Sidmouth. So we should now have some other Gigs to race against. I am also sending the invite round other Gig Clubs.
Hi all,
Session is going to go ahead at Midday today for the following crew:
Cox Carrie (swapping half way with Ben)
Stroke: Shirley
5: Ben
4: Bob
3: David
2: Sophie
1: Gary
Going to be breezy down there, but looks like it should hold up long enough to get out for this session before it gets really windy later.
Ben
