Following last night’s excellent meeting discussing future events. I propose that we create a list of social rows that coxes can slot into gaps in the racing calendar as the season progresses and as tide and wind permit.
We can also be opportunistic when for example a regatta is called off due to inclement launching conditions from open beach clubs.
My initial list would be to places from which crews can walk or bus home.
Topsham for lunch on a midday high tide.
Sandy Bay – best in calm weather for a beach landing.
Lympstone- need to be close to high water springsBarbecue on the Warren – a midsummer evening – return by walk & Starcross ferry or water taxi for one way crew members
Starcross Sailing Club – ditto
Turf Lock ditto via Topsham ferryI also like the idea of endurance rows but logistically that requires a lot of organising. I have taken my grandchildren on annual kayak expeditions on the Dart, Teign and Avon these are very scenic river trips but need good tidal planning.
We can have a backup of a joint walk or ferry trip when rowing is inadvisable.
We will have a social row sorters meeting when the race & regatta calendar is available to start planning.
