New gig funding bid closes.

New gig funding bid closes.

Exmouth Gig Club recently earned a place as finalists in line for a
grant from the One Family Foundation in order to raise funds to purchase
a new wooden Gig.

Through the tenacity and hard work of our members and friends the club
made it to 6th place out of nearly 300 entrants, with 783 people voting
for our project to try and win the £25,000 on offer. Sadly, Exmouth had
to finish in 4th place to win the prize and despite some hard work to
gain votes we missed out by over 500 votes. We were up against some very
worthy projects who I am sure will benefit hugely from the funds.

I would like to thank all of you who voted, rallied round your friends
to vote and those who came up with great ideas to attract votes from far
and wide! There is no doubt this campaign has gained us valuable
exposure even if we didn’t walk away with the funding. I would like to
extend special thanks to Max, Bob, Shirley and Nicola who went the extra
mile to pull in many votes between them and were persistent right up
until the closing hour. The Gig rowing community is well known for
pulling together and supporting their fellow clubs; through this
campaign this was clear to see, with many Gig Clubs and other
sports/social clubs sharing our plea for votes and sending messages of
encouragement!

Rest assured that there are other funding streams in our sights and the
committee regularly search for new ways to raise money for the club as
we look to improve the equipment we use.

Thank-you again for a big effort and please pass on my thanks to any of
your friends and contacts who supported us! The fund opens again for
bids next year and we now have a good idea of how many votes we must
gain next time.

Ben Atkinson.
