UPDATE: It is with regret that the Great River Race has been cancelled, those who put their names down for this year will have first priority for the next year, fingers crossed!!

    THE GREAT RIVER RACE (GRR)
    http://www.greatriverrace.co.uk

    Saturday 5th September

Exmouth are again taking a Gig to The Great River Race on The Thames this year!

Would you like to take part?

The low-down: – The Great River Race is an annual 21.6 mile ‘race’ on the River Thames from Docklands to Richmond.

    •Over 330 crews take part

The Pilot Gigs have to have 8 people on board.

Priority will be given to those who have previously put their names down last year and havent rowed in this event before, besides that we shall be making sure we have a balanced capable crew.

    What you need to know:-

    • We will not be racing in this event. We want to go and enjoy the spectacle. However, the row is a pretty solid 22 miles (3hrs +) and we will be in ‘Avocet’.
The cost for entry and various towage and crane costs is over £125 per person. (This will need to be paid upfront)
    • In addition – your own costs to get there plus accommodation – 1 or 2 nights (there is a camp site / hotels) + a contribution towards fuel costs to transport Avocet to London & back
You will need to be able to get to Richmond by 3pm on the day before to help to launch the Gig (tbc).
    • If you are interested in being part of the crew, can you please sign up here asap?
    • Those unlucky enough not to be selected this year, will be given priority for the 2021 GRR.

Hi all, we are advised that at the moment the GRR is planned to go ahead on 5th September. This may change of course.
Nonetheless, to secure an ‘earlybird’ slot we are required to sign up by 27th April. (cheaper costs)
Before we look to do this can you please confirm that you would be willing and able to form part of the crew if the race does go ahead, mindful that we will have done very little training.
Costs are: Adult Crew member £66.50 +VAT
    Bus tickets £19.75
    Towage and cranage £135
    £5 car parking at Ham
    Accommodation: circa £tba-various.

To all those who expressed an interest in this race.
As expected it has now been formally cancelled.
It is planned to be held next year-potentially in June, but further details are awaited.
