The club has just just turned 1 year old, taken possession of a training Gig and taken part in the World Championships and now we have also taken part in our first Exmouth festival!

We have been raising the profile of this exciting and fun sport to the people of Exmouth, Exeter and East Devon. During the week our team of volunteer members were on hand to explain the finer arts of Gig Rowing, encouraging the interested locals and visitors to come to our next Open Day on the 11th June and also laying down a fitness challenge.
To make the experience a little more interesting the public were encouraged to row 500 metres in the fastest time – on a static rowing machine!

There were three categories Men, Women and Under 16. And we are delighted to announce that the winners are:-
Mens: Mr Sinclair 1 Minute 27 Seconds
Womens: Suzy Bidwell 1 Minute 53 Seconds
Under 16: Matthew Wilkes 1 Minute 43 Seconds
Well done to all the winners and we shall be in contact shortly.
The week was a success for our club with a lot of people of all ages expressing an interest in attending our open session on Thursday 11th June. We had 127 people rising to the challenge on the Rowing Machines, over half in the Under 16 category.

We would like to especially thank our two main sponsors for the event, Cockman Builders and M Cockman Plumbing and Heating. Their ongoing support enabled us to make the event “cost neutral” – A Massive Thank You to all concerned.

If you were unable to visit our stall during the festival and are interested in what we do then please contact us or search this site for further information, photos and important dates of forthcoming events, or search for us on Facebook and Twitter.

Exmouth Gig Club are currently bidding for a grant from the Onefamily FOUNDATION to help us toward a new race gig.
