On a ‘balmy’ September evening, 42 members and friends enjoyed a cruise up the Exe to Topsham on the Stuart Line boat, ‘Tudor Rose’. Prior to sailing, the boat had been ‘decked out’ in Gig club coloured pennants, flags and ribbon by the organising committee. Making it look more like our ‘clubhouse’ than a boat. Individuals were also photographed by Gary Cook on boarding.

With the moonlight reflecting off the water, the boat gently meandered its way up the river to the ‘Lighter Inn’. On deck, members enjoyed the evening views with a drink and the smell of the food being cooked on the BBQ. Below deck, other members danced the night away in the disco.

The evening also included a ‘fun’ awards ceremony, presentation of coxswain training certificates and a raffle which raised £132 for club funds.

Despite the England v Wales WCR result (for Englishmen), the evening was enjoyed by all, and was continued by some in ‘The Grapevine’ on returning to Exmouth!

We would especially like to thank Stuart Line Cruises and all those people who kindly donated prizes for the raffle which helped to make the evening such a successful and memorable one.
