It was thanks to the residents of Camperdown Terrace and the Exmouth Sea Scouts that this fantastic family event re-emerged, having last taken place in the 1940’s. ‘A Street party on the water’ was the vision that the organisers had and the colourfully decorated gardens, fancy dress and boats flying flags all made that vision come to life as the event kicked off on a perfect September evening.
In front of the event HQ at the Sea Scouts hut, several racing categories were soon under starters orders, including Coxed blindfolded rowing, Single Kayaks, Stand Up Paddle Boards and Swimming with whole families getting involved and more on the shore cheering and laughing at some minor blindfolded mishaps!
Exmouth Gig Club members tried something different and were loaned a Seine boat from the Sea Scouts for a paddle up the Estuary, watching the racing from a safe distance for once as they got used to a different kind of sea rowing!
It is hoped this will become an annual event once again, its popularity showing how much the residents and locals enjoy this part of the Exe Estuary being on their doorstep and what a great place the Exe is for water sports and fun.
