This weekend sees the next leg of the Jurassic League, this time hosted by the mighty Bridport.
Below are some of the finer details…
Bridport Gig Rowing Club looks forward to welcoming you to its annual regatta and after party on Saturday 2nd July 2022.
Gigs should be delivered for launching to the point shown at the entrance to the slipway on The Esplanade opposite the Windy Corner Café (DT6 4GZ). Regatta HQ is also nearby.
Arriving gigs can easily pause on the road approaching the slipway entrance to await further direction.
BGRC Members will be on hand to assist in loading and unloading and giving directions to return to the trailer parking area. This involves following the road back around the harbour as shown on the attached plan.
Please be aware of the narrow bridge part way round as priority is given to traffic approaching from the west side. There will be signage and BGRC Members along the route.
The flat area at the top of the slipway will be extremely busy with boat traffic. Once gigs are on the pontoons, gigs must be accessed by going along the north side of this area and down the steps as shown on the plan. Please note that BGRC personnel will launch and retrieve on trolleys and hand over to clubs to get the boat onto trailers and away from the slipway area as soon as possible.
If weather conditions are fine, we may be able to race from the beach but if pontoons are in use, we’ll need to raft up so please make sure you have fenders.
Gigs may be left on trailers overnight for those clubs attending the party although the parking area is not private and secure.
Racing will take place around a kite-shaped course of approximately 2.2km heading west from the harbour and the order of the day’s proceedings is as follows.
- 07:15 – Gigs to arrive
- 08:00 – Registration and payment of launch fee £20

There are several nearby public car parks that can get busy at peak times. The best for long stay is West Bay Road Car Park on the way in from Bridport.
We’re very sorry to say that Dorset Council has more than doubled the cost of parking this summer and so it is quite expensive.
Machines take cash and card or use the Just Park phone line or app.
Other bits and pieces
We are using as little plastic as we can, so please bring your own water bottle. We are not supplying bottled water. Please feel free to bring your own refillable cup for teas/coffees.
We will have the obligatory BBQ on the go as well as sandwiches and cakes for sale plus tea, coffee and squash. There will also be a tombola plus an ergo competition for those with energy left!
The after party is from 6.30pm onwards in the location shown on the plan (outside BGRC’s boathouse and the Salt House on Fisherman’s Green) and will feature a bar, hog roast (from 8.00pm), a great local band and a DJ (DJ from 7.30, band afterwards).
The last party in 2019 was a great success even though the regatta itself had to be cancelled due to the weather. Don’t miss it!
Should the regatta have to be cancelled, the decision will be made by 3.00pm the day before.
